What Does It Matter?

After a busy few weeks, I am back with a new episode called, “What does it matter?” from Mark 5:21-43. Does it matter that the people in today’s passage are healed? You bet it does!
It matters because it is about so much more than physical healing.

If We Knew Then What We Know Now

I talk about recent decisions made by the United Methodist Church and we look at Acts 2 for Pentecost. It seems like a good time to look back to gather the courage to move forward, because the first disciples and all of us can definitely look at each other and say: "Wow, if we only knew then what we know now!"

Greater Than Our Hearts

Missing Easter

Easter: Tell Everyone!

The traditional Gospel reading for Easter Sunday is John 20:1-18, where Mary Magdalene comes to the tomb early on the first day of the week, while it is still dark.  You know that story.  It’s a good one.  It’s the surprise ending of the greatest story every told.  Mark 16:1-8 also presents the events of the resurrection, but in a much less satisfying way. The ending seems incomplete, unfinished. The women flee the tomb and say nothing to anyone because they were so afraid. The question is why. Why would Mark end his Gospel this way? “I have a theory. If this story is going to be resolved, if it’s ever going to have a happy ending, it will be up to us.”

Palm Sunday

Today’s passage for Palm Sunday, Mark 11:1-11, includes a parade. Jesus made his way into Jerusalem, but so did Pilate. The two parades and what they stood for could not have been more different. Two processions made their way into Jerusalem that day.  And, as those who seek to be faithful to Jesus today, we are forced to ask ourselves: Which parade are we a part of?
